David whitener was an abstract painter who was inspired by the optical effects of colour. his paintings are made up from thin strips of complementing colours, From the late 1960s he began working as an 'Op Artist'. While Bridget Riley was exploring the optical effects of line in her black-and-white works, Whitaker started to investigate the optical effects of colour in paintings of extraordinary daring and technical accomplishment. Using the images which i took in shoot 2 i was interested in reforming the same shapes that david whitaker created in his paints but involving movement within the lines.
