Distorting Projection

The projector and film create a square image, i want to distort this square in a space to make the composition more interesting, I have created a film using all of the different samples that i think worked the best, using this film i now have a video that lasts long enough for me to experiment for a longer period. The movements are slow, so that when i photograph them the colours are only moving slightly.and see how the angles of the lines change, exploring the effects of distortion.

"light is constantly in motion, travelling in straight lines' Mark Rothko

The light from the projector casts an image onto surface, but i i was interested in the space in-between, i carried out experiments where i tried to capture the paths of the light using this film as the colour, distorting the projection by corrupting the light in its path by with moving forms.

I took photos of different objects in the light using a long exposure on my camera in the same way that Fischli and Weiss used when photographing  (1) Surrli 19986-1998. a surrli machine is a spinning light that is photographed at a low angle with a long exposure producing effects like sparklers swirling in the dark. resulting in abstracted patterns of ever changing ellipses and overlapping loops that capture an optical illusion known as 'persistence of vision'.

During this last shoot, i have successfully set out what i aimed to do, which was to distort the square of the projector. Doing this i have created a new idea which is to layer up areas of projected light to photograph image 2, as the colours in each layer reacts with each other forming new colours, i think this could be an interesting approach if the colours where constantly changing. However i want to change the images that i am projecting as i have completely lost the natural elements an colour of my work. However these colour would work really well in an nightlife setting, especially in image 3, this is something that i can keep for the future as an idea for an entrance or hallway if doing night time public spaces.
